Commission approves Wylie ISD site plan for CTE and ag center at Hensley Lane

WYLIE, Texas — The Wylie Planning and Zoning Commission on June 2 approved a site-plan amendment for Wylie Independent School District to expand its agricultural education facility at 1301 Hensley Lane.

Planning staff said the proposal covers 37.818 acres and adds a new career and technical education building with a greenhouse, an expanded ag center including a new show area, a cattle turnout and a pig barn. The site would include a fire lane looping around the structures and 130 parking spaces, 10 of them ADA-accessible. Staff told commissioners the district must provide a secondary point of access via a shared or cross-access easement to property to the south and that civil plans must address on-site detention or demonstrate it is not required.

The amendment follows a preliminary plat that was earlier placed on the consent agenda. Planning staff described the building elevations as consistent with other Wylie ISD facilities, noting an enhanced glass-panel entrance and varied wall heights and offsets.

After a brief period for commissioner questions — no applicant representative spoke at the meeting — a commissioner moved to approve the site plan and another seconded. The commission voted to approve the item.

The approval authorizes the district to proceed to the next steps required for site-plan implementation, including submittal of civil engineering plans and any required easements and building-permit reviews. Planning staff said the school district’s engineer will provide documentation to the city’s engineering department regarding detention requirements.
