Environmental Advisory Committee reports Bird Town gold status, camera install and PFAS outreach

The Environmental Advisory Committee told the Parks & Recreation Board Charlestown retained Gold level Bird Town status; a camera server will be installed the week of April 6 and EAC plans a May 20 presentation on well water and PFAS/PFOS by Penn State Extension’s Beth Yount.
Faith Talnack, a member of the Charlestown Environmental Advisory Committee, told the Parks & Recreation Board that the township has retained Gold level status in the Bird Town program and noted kestrels and barred owls were observed during a March nest‑box cleanout.
Talnack said EAC plans several near‑term activities: installation of a server at the township building the week of April 6 with a camera expected to go live by the end of that week; a township road cleanup on April 11; and a partnership with the PA Outdoor Corps (Student Conservation Association) to cage shrubs along a riparian corridor at Brightside April 6–9.
EAC also announced it will host a community presentation on May 20 about well water and PFAS/PFOS by Beth Yount of the Penn State Extension Program; the time is to be determined. Talnack said EAC has circulated a community education survey to find topics of interest.
Board members did not take formal votes on EAC items during the meeting.
