Third-graders read winning essays at Burnsville's 'I Love Burnsville' ceremony

The Burnsville City Council honored third-grade winners of the annual "I Love Burnsville" essay contest during its regular meeting, and sponsors from TruStone Financial presented awards to students and teachers.
The council introduced the program, thanked TruStone representatives Mitchell Byers and Kim Gregg for their support, and announced prize amounts: $50 for each honorable mention and $100 for each winning student and their teacher. Acting Mayor presided over the presentation as students were invited to the front to read their essays and receive awards.
Three students read brief essays describing what they love about Burnsville. A student who identified parks and accessible playground surfaces said those features make the city welcoming for people who use wheelchairs. Another winner praised the mayor, clean housing and volunteer organizations such as Feed My Starving Children. A third winner highlighted Burnsville’s libraries, schools and community events.
Representatives from TruStone Financial thanked the council and said they enjoyed reading the students’ submissions. Council members joined winners for a group photograph following the presentations.
The presentation preceded the council’s regular business, including citizen comments and appointment votes.
