Board hears staffing update: civil service approvals, openings in special education and psychologists

The Cohoes City School District board received a staffing update that covered civil service approvals, current postings and ongoing recruitment needs. Presenter said civil service approved job descriptions last week for both a senior cleaner and an assistant director of facilities; the senior-cleaner position has been posted and civil service is following up on the assistant-director description.
Presenter described continuing needs in special education: “Some areas of need, continue to be special education,” the Presenter said, adding that the middle school has appointed one teacher and another hire is in process. Presenter also said there is at least one open school-psychologist position and that the district will begin recruitment again and use tools such as Skype and email for follow-up.
Presenter noted mentoring postings at Emma Lansing tied to recent teacher shifts, and that the mentor role was previously posted as a stipend. District staff said they will continue to meet with parents refining volunteer and mentoring plans and will return with more details when recruitment and staffing outcomes are clearer.
