Cohoes City School District outlines summer curriculum plans and grade-level training

District staff told the school board they will finalize department summer curriculum and run grade-level training this spring and summer, including a new high-school summer course with 10 students enrolled and named instructors receiving training.
The Cohoes City School District board heard a series of curriculum and training updates focused on summer work and new course launches. Presenter said 5th-grade teachers will need training this spring, and 1st-grade staff have requested in-gym training to support curriculum work planned for the summer.
The district plans to finalize summer curriculum by department and to update several course offerings. Presenter said the middle school will revamp its 21st-century communications course and expand STEM and technology development. At the high school, materials have been purchased for a new summer course; Presenter named Terry Menjers as the teacher and said another science teacher and teacher leader, Don Mabrina, will receive training as well.
Enrollment for the high-school summer course is small so far: Presenter said, “Currently, 10 students have signed up for the course.” The Presenter described follow-up training for staff over the summer and said these offerings are intended to be ready for use in the upcoming school year.
District staff did not specify exact start dates for all trainings; staff said more scheduling details will follow as planning continues. The presenter opened the floor for questions after the overview.
