Goochland County’s director of general services updated the Board of Supervisors on construction of Fire Station 8 on June 2, showing elevations, interior programming and a near‑term construction calendar.
Scott Foster said the station will include three drive-through bays, a fitness room, a meeting/training room with secure access, seven single bunks and a larger bunk room for surge events. The design uses masonry and low‑maintenance exterior materials; interior floors will be polished concrete for durability.
Foster reviewed milestones: notice to proceed was issued March 4, building permit was issued March 10, footings were complete in May and the foundation work is under way. He said the first slab pour was expected in early June and the county remains on track for substantial completion in May 2027 (05/10/2027 referenced in the presentation). Submittals and requests for interpretation are being managed; Foster reported 159 submittals received and 124 closed at the time of the slide deck, with 50 RFI requests and 48 closed.
Board members asked clarifying questions about well availability for the station and training opportunities; Foster confirmed two wells are present at the site, with one currently slated for the station and the other capped for future use. Members emphasized countywide benefit for emergency response and praised the presentation.
Foster said construction would move “vertical” in the coming weeks as masonry walls and slabs progress and invited questions from the board.
