Smyrna Beer Board approves on‑premise beer permit for Curry Up

The Smyrna Beer Board approved an on‑premise beer permit for Shakerum LLC, doing business as Curry Up, following a brief public hearing Tuesday evening.

Applicant Vimal Patel told the board he is opening an Indian‑style restaurant and will serve beer for on‑premise consumption. “My name is Vimal Patel, and we're opening, like, a Indian restaurant, like, a cuisine style,” he said while describing the concept and confirming that beer would be sold to diners.

Board members questioned Patel about operations and compliance measures. He said the restaurant will operate roughly 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., employ about six people and use an electronic ID scanner for age verification. He described staff training plans — roughly six weeks for food service and three weeks of bar training — and said the franchise provides additional training resources and that his partner, Harsh Patel, will serve as general manager after completing training in California.

Committee members also asked whether the business will offer bottled and draft beer and whether staff have experience maintaining draft lines; Patel said the operation will serve both and that staff have experience with draft systems.

After the public hearing closed, a board member moved to approve the on‑premise permit; the motion was seconded and carried on an affirmative vote. The chair congratulated the applicant and said, “Your permit has been approved. You can pick it up tomorrow after 10AM.”

The applicant was given standard instructions on permit pickup and was told to coordinate final details with town staff.
