Quentin said the defect felt like "running over a pothole" when he drove across the covers and showed Google Street View images to the commission during the meeting. John Genteel said the commission would note the condition in the minutes and recommended reporting the locations to public works for corrective action such as an extension ring or raising the covers to grade.
Members discussed that images shown on Google Maps may predate recent repaving on some streets; the commission agreed to submit photos (when safe to do so) and descriptions to the city website so public works can assess whether a ring extension or other repair is needed. The commission highlighted the practical safety concern for drivers and for people with mobility impairments using nearby sidewalks and crosswalks.
The commission did not take a formal vote on repairs at the meeting but recorded the concern for follow‑up with the city’s public‑works department.
