Smyth County authorizes staff to draft resolution urging lawmakers to keep VMI in state system

The Smyth County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 12 authorized the County Administrator to draft a resolution to the county's state delegates and senators asking they take action to keep the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in the Virginia College System.
Chair Charlie Atkins asked County Staff to contact state delegates and senators and encouraged drafting a resolution. Royal Oak District Supervisor Courtney Widener moved to authorize the County Administrator to draft the resolution; North Fork District Supervisor Rick Billings seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously in favor.
The board did not draft or adopt the resolution during the Feb. 12 meeting; the authorization directs county staff to prepare text for consideration and potential later adoption.
