MPO adopts FY27–31 TIP, updates priority projects and removes one trail item; FDOT briefs board on SR 200/bridge coordination

The Hernando–Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization board voted June 4 to adopt the draft Transportation Improvement Program for fiscal years 2027–2031 and to approve the annual List of Priority Projects (LOP) after several edits. The board also approved a motion to remove item No. 35 (Ford Island Trail multiuse path) from the LOP.
MPO staff explained that the TIP documents full project costs and the funding mix for projects requiring federal approval; the consultant highlighted that the TIP shows approximately $300 million of projects seeking federal authorization over the next five years (the total full‑cost list is larger when prior expenditures are included). "We have to show full project cost," a consultant said, emphasizing that indirect costs and project phases are now published more consistently.
Board members pressed state DOT staff about coordination on a bridge and State Road 200 near Marion County. FDOT’s Suzanne Ziegler said District 7 is developing a concept and is coordinating with District 5 and Marion County to align the bridge work and future widening of SR 200. She told the board staff will provide documents and a website with project materials and that PD&E commitments are being reviewed to preserve right‑of‑way and address cultural resources.
When asked about schedule, staff noted right‑of‑way work for a related County Line Road project is scheduled for 2029 with construction potentially in 2031. Board members urged early preservation of right‑of‑way and better inter‑district communication for projects that cross county lines.
