The Kennewick City Council unanimously adopted a resolution on June 2 designating Kennewick as a Purple Heart City.
A staff report said the resolution was advanced at the request of Kevin Bellicki on behalf of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post (as stated in the staff report) and was also sponsored by Mayor Pro Tem Torelli and Council Member Milbauer. "The resolution simply establishes Kennewick as a Purple Heart City and then also authorizes an annual proclamation recognizing our appreciation to our veterans who were injured or killed in action," staff said.
Council members offered brief praise for bringing the resolution forward. Staff noted there could be a minor financial impact for signage but said that cost would fall within the city manager’s discretion and would not require additional council action. The resolution passed by unanimous vote.
