Rockland school committee elects leadership, assigns subcommittees and approves routine business
Summary
At its April 13 meeting the Rockland Public Schools School Committee elected Mrs. Maroney chair, installed Mrs. Hennessy as vice chair and set subcommittee rosters. The committee unanimously approved routine items including minutes, monthly reports, multiple fundraisers and declared a mobile van surplus.
Chair Mrs. Maroney accepted the committee's nomination to serve as chair following Saturday's election; Mrs. Hennessy was elected vice chair and Emily Davidson accepted the secretary role. Nominations were moved and seconded from the floor and recorded as approved by the committee.
The committee also announced assignments to standing and bargaining subcommittees: examples include a Sick Leave Committee (Mrs. Davidson and Dr. Mauro-Small), a Wellness Committee (Dr. Mauro-Small), bargaining subcommittees for teachers, secretaries, custodians, cafeteria personnel and paraprofessionals, and a Budget Subcommittee chaired by Mrs. Maroney. Members named multiple other liaisons (WRPS TV community broadcasting, athletic department liaison, cable advisory) and ad hoc roles; the full list of assignments was read into the record.
On routine business the panel approved the March 23, 2026 minutes (the transcript notes that Dr. Mauro-Small and Ms. Hennessy abstained on that vote), accepted administrators' monthly reports, and approved multiple fundraising activities for daycare, senior scholarships, drama and student clubs; each item was moved and recorded as approved at the meeting.
The board voted to declare a mobile van surplus, directing staff to have it detailed and offered at auction to determine market value. The motion to surplus the van was moved by Mrs. Hennessy and seconded by Dr. Mauro-Small and recorded as approved.
"I just want to thank this team; sitting in this seat is a lot of pressure. Sitting at these tables, we do it together and we do it well," Chair Mrs. Maroney said as she closed her remarks.
The meeting adjourned at 7:18 p.m.
