Berkley assessors approve prior minutes, review preliminary FY2025 values and Chapterland approvals

The Town of Berkley Board of Assessors approved the minutes of its Oct. 16, 2024, meeting and reviewed a set of administrative and operational updates at its Oct. 23, 2024, session in the Assessors Office.
Chairman Mark Pettey Jr. called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. Clerk Jeanne Russo moved to accept the prior meeting minutes; Pettey seconded and the board, unanimous among the three members present, approved the motion.
The board discussed routine administrative matters. Clerk Jeanne Russo reported she has completed an initial draft of an information pamphlet for Berkley residents and is awaiting feedback from a consultant. Assessor Gary Hoitt said he taught an Excel class for BCAA in Taunton on Oct. 17, 2024, and provided a brief update on the certification and revaluation process.
Hoitt reported that Berkley’s valuations are pending preliminary certification approval by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR). The board noted that the Notice of Public Disclosure of Preliminary Property Values for fiscal year 2025 is posted on the town website and will remain there through the close of business on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024; staff said data collection for the revaluation is ongoing.
The board also reviewed Chapterland applications. Minutes state that all complete and correct applications were approved and will receive approval notifications; applicants with incomplete or incorrect submissions will be informed that corrective measures are required.
At 5:18 p.m., Clerk Jeanne Russo moved to enter executive session and not return to open session; Chairman Pettey seconded and a roll-call vote was unanimous. The meeting later recessed and subsequently adjourned. Jeanne Russo moved to adjourn; Mark Pettey Jr. seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 6:04 p.m. Minutes were prepared by Assessor Gary Hoitt.
