City staff presented the county-level growth-plan update and asked the council to ratify the amendment that updates Cookeville's urban growth boundary (UGB).
"This amendment adds approximately 4,342 acres to the city's UGB, bringing our total urban growth boundary area to approximately 13,905 acres," Mr. Ward told the council, describing the map exhibits and the required state submission steps.
Staff said the Putnam County growth committee approved the 2026 updates in May and that the local governments completed the process without mediation. Council ratified the resolution that authorizes the county mayor to submit the plan to the state's Local Government Planning Advisory Committee for final action. The council approved the resolution by voice vote (5-0).
The action formally records the UGB adjustments and moves the plan forward for state-level review, a required step under state law.
