Marion selects inclusive playground design for Veil Park; construction slated for summer 2026

Parks staff told the council Tuesday that community outreach favored an all‑inclusive playground concept for Veil Park and that the parks department intends to proceed with installation this summer.

"We had residents and their children choose what they liked and didn't like out of those display boards," parks maintenance manager Brock Dublin said, describing outreach at a city showcase and an open house. The selected concept includes distinct play zones for ages 2–5 and 5–12, accessible routes, sensory panels, a rope feature and a small ninja‑course element, perimeter fencing, shade structures with benches, and swing sets.

Staff said Bollinger Recreations provided three design options and the park board recommended revision 1 — the all‑inclusive, city‑themed color option with fencing and shade. The proposed timetable calls for council approval in June, site work and installation in July, surfacing and fencing in August, and project completion in fall 2026.

Council members and neighborhood residents praised the engagement process and the addition of perimeter fencing, which was requested by parents of children who might run out of a play area. Parks staff said the feature responds to community safety and inclusion priorities and that they will return with required contract documents for council approval.
