Mercer Island High students bring robot and demo to board after qualifying for worlds

Students from Mercer Island High School's robotics team presented their robot to the board and described team roles, fundraising and recent competition results, including qualifying for the world championship for the first time. The board welcomed the students and their coach (introduced as Mr. Ketchum), invited students to explain mechanical and electrical systems and heard about the club's mix of technical and business teams.
Several team members introduced themselves by name during the presentation: Nathan (lead/panel lead, future CTO), Jett Jones (electrical team/co-driver), Tyler (mechanical), Brandon and Shane (co‑presidents/drivers), Imani (systems lead) and Ruby (mechanical/co-president). Students explained competition mechanics (game pieces called "fuel," on‑robot cameras that read AprilTags, a turreted shooter and a flywheel) and said the robot achieved reliable accuracy when tuned for a field.
Coach and students discussed fundraising needs and noted that building a competitive robot requires substantial parts and materials; students described the business and media team roles that support outreach and finance. The team performed a controlled demonstration for board members in the meeting space.
"This is some of our previous leadership...this is the team," a student said while outlining goals and transitions as seniors graduate. The board thanked the students for their work and discussed opportunities to showcase the team to the community.
