Oak Bluffs Finance Committee notes modest school budget reductions; regional high school recertification possible

Chair Bob Malecki reported that both school budgets were slightly reduced for FY27, with the Oak Bluffs School budget dropping by about $22,000. Deborah Potter told the Committee that the School Committee may revisit the Regional High School budget to find further reductions and could present a floor amendment of approximately $50,000 at the Annual Town Meeting.
Ms. Potter also said the timing of insurance figures from Cape Cod Municipal Insurance (provided in February) complicates finalizing budgets because many budgets have already been prepared for the April Town Meeting; school leaders intend to continue work with the goal of recertifying if additional reductions are identified.
Committee members asked the School Committee to continue pursuing reductions and noted they would consider any recertification or amendment presented from the floor at the Annual Town Meeting.
