Library board highlights strong turnout for children’s events and outlines summer calendar

At its April 6, 2026 meeting, the Library Board reviewed recent children’s programming and previewed a packed summer calendar.
Tina Dunham, a board member, told the board that "Take Your Child to the Library Day" in early February drew about 140 attendees and that staff offered a variety of activities. Paige Murray sold books at the event, the minutes say. Dunham also reported that daily spring-break activities were well attended.
The board discussed plans for National Library Week the week of April 20 and heard a preview of summer offerings. Tie-Dye will kick off summer activities on May 29, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon; Dunham said volunteers are needed to staff that event.
Members also heard that Brook Allen, identified as a former student of board member Emily Rollen, will give a book talk in July, and that Carnegie will present to the Teen Advisory Council on April 9 on its production of Anne of Green Gables. The 250 Book Club met the previous Monday; the selected title was by Cookee Roberts.
AARP volunteer tax helpers have been busy this season and are bringing additional helpers, the board was told. Board members said they will consider recent attendance and new-card data—compiled over five years—to guide program decisions.
The board set its next meeting for May 4, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
