Town staff reported that 81 petitions for voluntary annexation were received and that 43 parcels met statutory eligibility and were certified by the clerk for immediate annexation; other petitions will be kept on file until they become eligible. "Of the 81 petitions received, 43 are eligible for voluntary annexation at this time," the clerk said during the hearing.
Tracy McCorkle, representing the Reserve of Oak Ridge neighborhood, told the council that her 17‑house neighborhood had voted in favor of annexation and sought the municipal services and local representation that come with town citizenship.
Council member Ms. Snyder moved to adopt the ordinance and the motion passed on a voice vote during the meeting; no roll‑call tally was recorded in the transcript.
Staff emphasized that mailing addresses are controlled by the U.S. Postal Service and may not change automatically after annexation. The clerk said petitions that were ineligible (for example, because they were part of a subdivision that cannot be partially annexed) will remain on file until circumstances change.
The ordinance as adopted was presented for an effective date of June 30, and staff will carry out required notification and administrative steps following adoption.
