Julie Hamilton, a resident who said she lives at 628 Gage Avenue, told the Evanston City Council she and her husband saw a loose labradoodle on May 25, took a photograph and attempted to contact animal control via links on the city website and Facebook. According to Hamilton, emails to three listed addresses returned as undeliverable, and a Facebook message produced an automatic acknowledgement but no follow‑up. She said she also left a phone message during business hours and had not received a response after eight days.
Hamilton said a resident later reported the dog had been hit on Interstate 80 and that a man in Kemmerer told her the dog—named Amelia—was his in‑law’s and had been stolen from a yard. She said her concern was that a timely response from animal control might have saved the animal.
The presiding chair acknowledged the report, expressed sympathy and pledged the city would investigate why the listed email links and contacts were not working and make sure messages are returned. The council thanked Hamilton for bringing the issue to the city’s attention and said staff would follow up.
