Woolwich Township Committee names Natalie Matthias mayor, Michael Nocentino deputy mayor and adopts slate of appointments

Natalie Matthias was appointed mayor of Woolwich Township and sworn in at the committee’s Jan. 5 reorganization meeting, and Michael Nocentino was named deputy mayor and also sworn in.
The committee opened nominations for mayor at the meeting; Committeewoman Williams nominated Natalie Matthias, a motion seconded by Michael Nocentino. The committee adopted Resolution R-2026-01 to appoint Matthias as mayor by unanimous roll call. Senator John Burzichelli administered the oath of office to Mayor Matthias. Mayor Matthias then called for nominations for deputy mayor; Williams nominated Michael Nocentino, seconded by Matthias, and the committee adopted Resolution R-2026-02 by unanimous roll call. Commissioner Matt Weng administered the oath to Deputy Mayor Nocentino.
The committee approved a consent agenda adopting Resolutions R-2026-03 through R-2026-38, a package that the minutes list as including professional services appointments (municipal solicitor, labor counsel, municipal auditors, municipal engineer, planner and other specialist appointments), the 2026 temporary budget under NJSA 40A:4-19, meeting dates and newspaper designations pursuant to the Open Public Meetings Act, and other routine municipal authorizations. The consent agenda was moved by Committeewoman Williams, seconded by Deputy Mayor Nocentino, and adopted unanimously.
There were no public comments during the open floor period. Committee members offered brief remarks: Committeeman Frederick congratulated the committee and highlighted the township’s strong finances while urging fiscal caution amid slowing development; Committeewoman Minhas stressed teamwork over party affiliation; and Committeewoman Williams said she has been working to assess land and community needs and announced a collaboration with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission to update the township’s open space and recreation plan at no cost.
In a State of Woolwich summary, Mayor Matthias listed 2025 accomplishments including park expansions, grant funding, new staff hires, police additions and contracts, steps taken on fire services and hiring firefighters, and ordering a new ladder truck, noting these were achieved "without a municipal tax increase." The meeting adjourned at approximately 6:50 p.m. Municipal Clerk Jessica Mignogna filed the minutes; a video recording is on file.
