Officials report siren repairs, state-funded rescue boat and business survey; budget draft due July 7

Officials provided several operational updates and announcements during the council meeting, ranging from public-safety equipment to economic-development outreach and budgeting timelines.
Chief Street said siren testing (first Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m.) confirmed the emergency siren system is operational after work with the vendor Fulton and volunteer site crews. "We confirmed that they all work," he said, thanking volunteers and maintenance staff.
Officials also reported that State Rep. Joyce Mason helped secure state funds to purchase a new rescue/safety boat for lake operations. Staff said they will present an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Winthrop Harbor for joint operation and that the Winthrop Harbor marina has agreed to donate a slip. A staff member said details and an IGA will be presented at a future council meeting.
Director Ronson described economic-development outreach at the ICSC conference (May 19–20) and said the city has launched a 2026 business survey for brick-and-mortar and home-based businesses; results will be shared with council at the end of the month. Director Waldendorf said a rough draft of the budget will be available July 7 and the city aims to approve appropriations on Aug. 4.
Council members also noted the 38th annual nostalgia car show (June 19–20) and welcomed new businesses coming to the city.
