Harrison Central School District board reopens after executive session, approves personnel and finance consent items and recognizes student achievements

The Harrison Central School District Board of Education met on June 2, 2026, recessed into executive session to consider a student matter and CSEA contractual matters, then reopened its regular business meeting and approved a slate of routine consent items including personnel, administrative and finance and facilities reports.

Dr. Woll, the district superintendent, praised students and staff during the meeting, saying, “We don't believe in ranking human beings,” and emphasizing the district's focus on values and student well‑being as the school year ends. The chair read a long list of student and staff recognitions: 30 Harrison High School students took the American Association of Teachers of Italian national contest (an exam taken by more than 6,000 students nationwide); gold medal winners were named; the district's string ensemble earned its fourth consecutive NISMA gold rating; several students placed at national debate competitions; and the district received 12 Metro Award nominations for its spring musical.

Mr. Blaustein, reporting for the policy subcommittee, said the committee had completed revisions to the 5000 series (business operations) and 6000 series (personnel) policies; some 5000‑series policies were slated for approval that night and additional 5000/6000 series policies were presented for first reading with copies available from the district clerk.

On personnel matters the board approved consent items covering certificated and non‑certificated resignations, regular appointments (with SED clearance where required), extra‑compensation appointments and changes of status; the superintendent noted the board will formally recognize retirees at the next meeting and singled out Salvatore Odia for thanks. The board also approved the administrative report (consent A–O) and the finance and facilities report (consent A–Z). During the finance discussion the chair publicly thanked donors and scholarship funds including Giuseppe Della Carpini (the Deli Carpini scholarship fund), the Harrison Youth Soccer Club, the Harrison Council of PTAs, the Memorial School PTA and the Giovanni Marciano Italian American Scholarship Fund.

The board set its next regular business meeting for June 17, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Lewis M. Lehi Middle School and then adjourned.
