Smyth County Board of Zoning Appeals elects 2016 officers, adopts procedures and sets meeting calendar

The Smyth County Board of Zoning Appeals convened Jan. 5, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. in the Smyth County Office Building and completed several organizational tasks for the year. Staff member Clegg Williams served as temporary chair to oversee the election of officers.
John Saunders moved to retain the board's existing officers for 2016. The motion was seconded by John DeBusk and was carried unanimously; the board elected John Saunders as chairman, Newell Johnson as vice chairman and John DeBusk as secretary for calendar year 2016.
The board approved the minutes of Aug. 4, 2015 on a motion by Newell Johnson, seconded by Kim Davidson; that motion also passed unanimously. The board reviewed and adopted its operating procedures on a motion by John DeBusk, seconded by Newell Johnson, with unanimous consent.
Members set the 2016 meeting calendar: meetings will be scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. when an application is filed; if no application is filed, the next meeting will be held Jan. 3, 2017. Staff members Clegg Williams and Becca Creasy were recorded as present. Board members present included John Saunders, Newell Johnson, Kim Davidson, Daniel Sturgill, Tim Widener, John DeBusk III and Robert Shults (alternate); Erwin Rowland was absent.
At approximately 5:45 p.m., Chairman John Saunders adjourned the meeting.
