Tomball ISD board upholds prior decision, denies parent’s FNG grievance

The Tomball ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously on the evening of the meeting to uphold a prior (level 2) ruling and deny a grievance filed under board policy FNG by parent Heather Jurinka, whose child attends Oakcrest Intermediate School.

Holly Sherman, general counsel for Tomball ISD, opened the hearing and said, “The grievance involves discussing personally identifiable information about a public school student.” She told trustees the board would move into executive session, citing “section 5 51 0 8 2 1 of the Texas government code” and “section 5 51 0 7 1” for consultation with the board attorney. Sherman confirmed a recording of the hearing before the board left for closed session at 09:58.

The board reconvened in open session at 11:25. No action was taken during the closed session, and the board prepared to render its decision. Sherman moved “to uphold the level 2 decision and deny the grievance.” The president seconded the motion; after the president called the vote, he announced, “Motion carries unanimously,” and stated the board would uphold the current decision.

The president told Jurinka she would “receive a written notice confirming the action taken by the board tonight.” Trustees and administration thanked Jurinka for compiling and presenting the information and offered administrative assistance: Sherman said staff would have “a couple of individuals reach out to mom” to try to assist, and the president mentioned potential help with SAT camp.

With no further board comments, the meeting moved to adjournment; a motion to adjourn was made and seconded (recorded as made by Mister White and seconded by Mister McStravick).

The board’s action preserves the level 2 outcome and denies the FNG grievance; the written confirmation to the grievant will follow.
