A representative of the Rochester Downtown Partnership updated the commission on recent downtown activity, saying the group voted in two new board members and will hold officer elections in November. The group reported a spike in social media engagement, a successful food festival and plans for a holiday stroll with hours to be announced the following week.
The representative said a local donor funded a new 10-by-20 high-resolution screen for the Times Theater, which the group expects will improve programming and audience experience. "We're getting installed, 10 by 20 state of the art screen on the back of our stage," the representative said, adding the Partnership has seen roughly 35,000 visitors at events and is working with Fulton County tourism to secure ad space.
Why it matters: the Partnership argued that downtown events draw significant out-of-town visitors and support restaurants and hotels; speakers said increased programming and amenities can help the town capture more visitor spending. The representative said the Partnership is planning a spring festival and will seek necessary approvals for events as they move forward.
