The Tazewell County Community Policy and Management Team voted unanimously on May 19, 2025, to approve funding for services related to foster care, child protective services (CPS), Cumberland, court services and Tazewell County Schools following a closed-session review of the cases.
The closed-session motion to discuss individual cases and associated funding was made by Robin Jackson and seconded by Arlene Matney. After returning to open session and certifying compliance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, David Taylor moved to approve the recommended funding allocations; Lori Gates-Addison seconded and the motion carried with a recorded tally of 8 ayes, 0 nays and 2 absent (Shanna Plaster and Shelby Mitchell). The Parent Representative seat remained vacant.
The meeting packet and motions show the CPMT followed the statutory certification process required when a board uses a closed session to discuss narrowly exempt personnel or case matters. The motion approved funding for the service categories listed above; the transcript records the approval but does not disclose line-item amounts or individual client details discussed in closed session.
Earlier in the meeting the CPMT approved routine business, including the April 28, 2025 meeting minutes and the April FY2025 financial report, and approved the April 30, 2025 Safe & Stable Funds report.
The CPMT adjourned at 10:55 a.m.; its next scheduled meeting is Monday, June 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
