The Town Board authorized two capital-budget amendments at its Sept. 4 meeting to address unexpected costs on infrastructure projects.
Meredith, the town’s staff member, outlined the amendments: a $36,879.52 increase for the Brookside Place water-main replacement tied to unanticipated field conditions, and a $392,000 amendment for the Waverly Avenue project after unforeseen utility-location issues and additional police-service needs. Meredith said the town had identified those adjustments to carry the projects to completion and that liquidated damages in the contractor’s contract may apply if the contractor remains past an October 31 contractual date.
The board moved to authorize the controller to make the presented budget amendments; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. Board members asked staff to confirm the town’s sole responsibility for the charges; staff said they had done so.
Why it matters: the amendments adjust funding to keep infrastructure projects on track and reflect changed field conditions and service needs. Officials noted the contractor’s potential liability for delays will depend on circumstances and days of delay.
