Town Board announces enrollment in Westchester Power community choice program

The Town Board announced at its Sept. 4 work session that the town will participate in Sustainable Westchester’s Westchester Power community choice aggregation program and that residents will be automatically enrolled in a 100% renewable supply option beginning Nov. 1, 2024, unless they have an existing contract or opt out.
The announcement, delivered by the meeting chair, explained the program offers competitive fixed-rate electric supply options and that a 50% renewable option is also available. The town will send enrollment letters in September; residents who previously opted out will not receive an automatic enrollment letter and must contact Sustainable Westchester to re-enroll.
Why it matters: the program aims to provide a fixed-rate, renewable electricity supply to residences and small businesses and can reduce exposure to market price swings, officials said. The board urged residents to review the enrollment letter and reminded people they may opt out at any time without penalty.
Meredith, a town staff member who presented other agenda items at the meeting, directed residents to the Sustainable Westchester website and provided a contact phone number announced on the record. Council members also encouraged residents who previously opted out to consider re-enrollment, saying the new green rates are close to Con Edison’s rates and are fixed.
