The McCordsville Town Council voted 5-0 to adopt a comprehensive amendment to the town’s zoning ordinance that updates dozens of land-use definitions and revises the official schedule of uses, including new definitions for "data center" and "power generation facility." Planning staff (Ryan, speaker 7) told the council the revisions aim to modernize definitions and correct places where commercial uses were allowed in residential districts.
"As we worked through definitions for data centers and power generation facilities, we found other land-use definitions that needed updating," Ryan said, noting the changes were intended to make the upcoming Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) work smoother. The Planning Commission had reviewed the changes and recommended approval at its Jan. 27 public hearing.
Staff said the amendment relocates certain uses to appropriate zoning districts, adds missing definitions and clarifies where uses are permitted, prohibited, or permitted by special exception. The council considered the item eligible for final action (second reading) at the meeting and approved ordinance number 21,026 on a unanimous voice vote.
Next steps: the ordinance will be codified and staff will incorporate the changes into ongoing UDO work; the council did not request further amendments at this meeting.
