Des Moines Independent Comm School District recognizes student achievements and marks retirement of long-time communications director Phil Raider

Smith then announced the upcoming retirement of Phil Raider at the end of June. Raider has served the district for more than 20 years, including roughly 16 years as Director of Communications and Public Affairs. Trustees and staff recognized Raider's role in district communications and community engagement; speakers noted his photography work (including recognition at the Iowa State Fair and appearances on a U.S. postage stamp) and said he will have an art exhibit at the Makokuta Art Experience this summer.
