Dodge County approves payables, moves to auction parcel and readies election board changes

Dodge County commissioners approved a slate of routine business at a June 17 meeting, including accounts payable, a property disposition and several administrative updates.

Commissioner Brian Watkins moved to approve the accounts payable report totaling $583,047.99; Commissioner Sharon Cobb Flanagan seconded and the motion passed unanimously among those physically present.

Manager Conner Bearden told the board he had received a request to purchase Parcel E21 083, a .14-acre lot on Mt. Moriah Street acquired by the county in a tax sale in August 1997. The board voted to engage an auctioneer to sell the property; Commissioner Watkins moved and Commissioner Flanagan seconded the motion, which passed.

In administrative updates, Manager Bearden said Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) supplement grant bids will be opened July 2 at 2:00 p.m., and that the LMIG grant funds have been received. He also reported tire abatement ended June 16 (three company trailers and two county trailers filled), seven courthouse RFQs have been received, and a SPLOST negotiations meeting is scheduled for June 20 at 6 p.m. He added that frisbee golf is now available through the recreation department and that Maloy's Store will be available as a manned dumpster site.

Bearden also said he will advertise openings for a five-member Board of Elections that will be effective in January 2025, and noted the probate judge will no longer serve as Elections Superintendent at that time.

With no further business, the board adjourned at 6:33 p.m.
