At its Feb. 3 meeting the Clearfield County Prison Board heard that just one inmate was participating in the county’s work‑release program and discussed gaps in transportation for people released from custody.
Warden Oates reviewed the work release statistics and other operational reports for December, stating the in‑house population was 164 and that there were no extraordinary occurrences. The Warden reported one inmate currently participating in work release. Judge Cherry said he would like to explore ways to increase the number of inmates eligible for work release in the future.
During new business, Commissioner Sobel raised examples of released inmates lacking transportation from the jail and recommended that the warden and staff update policies and procedures addressing the issue. Commissioner Glass suggested the county consider an agreement with ATA to provide transportation when needed. Warden Oates said she would begin reviewing policies after the commissioners communicate with ATA.
No formal action on transportation agreements or program expansion was taken at the public meeting; the board later went into an executive session on personnel. Follow‑up items include commissioners contacting ATA and the warden conducting a policy review.
