ARB recommends approval of Hillburn Road addition, suggests altering bow window

Architect Vladimir Levin presented plans for an addition at Hillburn Road featuring end additions, replacement of siding with Hardy siding and a stone veneer on exposed foundation walls, and other façade updates. Levin said the project would wrap stone veneer around much of the exposed foundation and use composite trim and fascia.
Board members complimented the overall update but raised a design concern that the existing bow window dated the façade and recommended a more consistent treatment across the three primary elements on the front elevation. One board member suggested a ‘‘popped-out’’ triple window under the roofline rather than the existing bow as a lower-cost alternative.
Levin noted site constraints — including an easement that runs through the lot — that had required a variance for impervious coverage; the ARB confirmed that stormwater mitigation would be required for the net increase in impervious surface and that the planning board and town consulting engineer will review the mitigation design.
The board moved to recommend approval of the application with a recommendation that the applicant consider replacing the bow window with a window treatment similar to the left-side elevation. The motion carried.
