Board unanimously approves naming Washington High School court for longtime coach Pam Spitzer Olsen

The Franklin Pierce School Board unanimously approved a proposal to rename the Washington High School basketball court in honor of Pam Spitzer Olsen, recognizing her more than 53 years of service as a teacher, coach and athletic director.
Assistant Principal Joe Seaborn (S23) presented the proposal on behalf of Principal Kwasi Amua, describing Olsen as a "teacher, coach, mentor, athletic director and role model" who led Washington to state championships and supported generations of student-athletes. "She cared about our students. She cared about our programs. And most importantly she cares about our community," Seaborn said.
Seaborn told directors that students, alumni and the building leadership team had unanimously endorsed the renaming and shared anecdotes about Olsen's mentorship and decades-long presence at games and events. The board approved the action by voice vote with no oppositions recorded on the transcript.
Directors discussed logistics of an unveiling and asked staff to coordinate an event that would be meaningful and not overwhelming for Olsen, who continues to attend athletic events.
The renaming takes effect immediately; staff said the athletics committee and building leadership team will propose recognition events in coordination with Olsen and with the district's timeline for facilities signage.
