A staff member said they would verify the mechanics and return with clarification at the August meeting.
Separately, a committee member proposed exploring changes to the landscape ordinance to reduce the requirement for mandatory turf grass and to encourage Florida‑friendly and native plantings. The member said a white paper from a waterways‑committee member recommended three prongs, one of which would permit artificial turf; committee members expressed mixed views. One member cautioned against trading fertilizer use for increased microplastics if astroturf were widely embraced.
"I don't want to exchange one problem for another," a member said, urging caution and requesting that staff distribute the white paper and experts’ input before further debate. Another member suggested the committee could include fertilizer messaging in upcoming Marco & Bloom events and work with the Coastal Breeze for wider public outreach.
The committee agreed to have staff clarify the educational‑session requirement and to include the landscape‑ordinance white paper and related materials in the packet for the August meeting.
