The council voted to update Council Policy 59 (Capital Asset Management) to raise the capitalization threshold for fixed assets from $5,000 to $10,000, effective June 1, 2026.
Anna Soick, clerk/treasurer and finance director, explained the proposed threshold increase was prompted by rising asset values and an auditor recommendation; she said the change will reduce administrative work for tracking lower‑cost items and better align the city’s capital accounting with current replacement costs.
The motion to adopt the policy update was moved, seconded and approved without further discussion. No budgetary appropriations were part of the action; the change affects internal accounting and capitalization procedures going forward.
The council recorded the change as effective June 1, 2026 and staff will update financial reporting protocols accordingly.
