Scout Hut to be vacated and possibly split for rentals; small RV park budgeted and inclusive-play fundraising under way

The Park Board discussed facility use and capital priorities at its July 15 meeting, including plans for the Scout Hut, a budgeted RV park project and fundraising for inclusive playground equipment.
City Administrator Ivone Smith said occupants of the Scout Hut expect to move to a new building around mid-August. Smith will inspect the property to determine if it contains multiple rentable rooms; if so, the city may revise the current rental agreement (which covers the whole building) to allow separate room rentals and consider renaming the facility.
On a separate facility item, Smith said $10,000 has been budgeted this year toward creating a new RV park. She said the city is seeking a provider to deliver fill material ('chat') at a reasonable price, preferably in one or two truckloads to limit hauling costs; the city plans to do remaining work with existing staff and equipment.
Board members also revisited plans for inclusive playground equipment after an earlier presentation by Ashley Andrews. Parks staff member David Blaylock reported vendor estimates ranging from about $25,000 up to $1.5 million for fully inclusive installations. Andrews is pursuing grant opportunities and the board discussed fundraising to cover any required local match.
Other operational matters included a planned family gathering at MLK Park that will need water; Deputy Clerk Jessie Cobb said C&S Septic will fix or replace a locked porta potty before the weekend, and Smith said she will investigate electrical and water access at the pavilion.
No formal actions were taken on these items; staff will report back with inspections, cost estimates and procurement options.
