Malden Park Board approves June minutes; staff warn wage updates will change Parks budget

The Malden Park Board approved the minutes from its June 24, 2025 meeting and heard updates on budgeting and staff availability at its July 15 meeting.
City Administrator Ivone Smith said the June 2025 financial reports were not ready because staff have not yet updated wages tied to some departments moving to union status. She said some employee wages are split between the Street Department and Parks, which will affect the Parks budget once updated. The City Council has allowed departments to operate on the current budget until a new budget is approved.
Board Member Walker Culp asked how many Street Department staff normally help Parks operations. Smith said the city typically uses two full-time and one part-time Street Department employees for parks work; currently only one is available and another is completing a pre-employment physical.
The board approved the minutes by a 7-0 vote on a motion from Board Member Aujua Woods, seconded by Board Member Earnest Fobbs. The meeting adjourned at 6:21 p.m. on a motion from Board Member Walker Culp, seconded by Woods, which also passed 7-0.
The board will meet next on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
