Board approves workers' comp carrier and two Manhattan High CTE construction bids; several motions carry unanimously

At its June meeting the USD 383 Board of Education approved several contracting and procurement actions unanimously.
Workers' compensation: The board approved, by motion, Missouri Employers Mutual as the district’s workers' compensation carrier for fiscal year 2027 at an annual premium of $269,602. Curt (S6) moved the action and the motion passed 7–0.
Manhattan High CTE projects: The board accepted two construction bids from Riley Construction of Wamego: a $114,450 contract for a video production control room addition that the board said will support CTE students in production roles, and a $331,800 contract for an industrial arts finishing room addition to expand hands‑on learning and safety accommodations. Motions on both projects passed 7–0.
Policy first readings: The board also approved first readings on three revised policies (staff online activities, goals and objectives, and equal employment opportunity/nondiscrimination) and assigned follow‑up as needed. Several board members praised the CTE investments as opportunities to expand career technical education and student experiential learning.
All procurement votes were unanimous; the board directed administration to finalize contracts, notify bidders, and proceed with project timelines and administrative steps.
