Oyster River outlines multi-year strategic plan goals; board presents first three overarching goals and initiatives

The Oyster River Coop School District presented the first installment of a multi-part strategic-plan update on June 3, walking the community through the plan’s pillars, the first three overarching goals and associated strategic initiatives.
Presenters described four pillars—future-focused teaching and learning; safe and caring environments; family and community engagement; and innovation/leadership/global connection—and six overarching goals. This meeting covered goals 1–3, including (1) articulating and implementing a vertically aligned K–12 curriculum framework with publicly available documentation, (2) committing to a shared vision of evidence-based, "high-leverage" instructional strategies to ensure equitable access, and (3) expanding student-centered, real‑world learning experiences.
Officials discussed measurable outcomes and implementation approaches, such as forming stakeholder working groups for each initiative, defining progress-monitoring steps, and re-establishing a K–5 curriculum committee to support ELA implementation. Board members and staff said many of the strategies are already in practice in pockets across the district and the strategic plan is intended to coordinate and expand that work.
Presenters also described initiatives under goal 2—expanding professional knowledge of Universal Design for Learning and conducting a co‑curricular audit to assess participation and access across extracurriculars. The plan will continue at future meetings with goals 4–6 and will include public forums and an online survey to solicit feedback before final adoption.
