Council hears municipal building, sewer expansion and permit updates; Walnut Grove sign permit issued

Council heard a series of administrative reports on operations, permits and capital projects.
Staff said the municipal building should be ready for rentals later than July 1 and described plans for a master lock system, keyed access for renters, locked storage for audiovisual gear and a reinspection to meet fire-marshal requirements. The city plans to open rentals once those inspections and required fixes are complete.
On infrastructure, staff said a production meeting for the sewer-expansion project will be scheduled soon and invited the project manager, public-works and any interested elected officials to attend. The city submitted a Local Recovery Assistance (LRA) request to the state, which staff estimated could yield roughly $27,000 to help pay project-related bills.
Staff also reported issuing a sign permit for the Grove community; this item is recorded in the permits as a directional sign and is normalized here under the spelled proper name Walnut Grove. Additional electrical and electrical-safety permits were issued for pipeline maintenance and other lot-line work.
In staffing updates, public works reported being fully staffed and introduced a recent hire, Mason Brown. The clerk reported account balances across operating and money-market accounts and noted active field rentals and bookings.
Staff flagged several routine code-enforcement matters (right-of-way vegetation, downed trees and neighbor complaints) and said they will continue to process complaints and remediation under existing procedures.
