Agency official outlines preliminary FY2027 tax commitments; town meeting moved to June 29

An agency official for Acushnet's assessor's office told the Board of Select Assessors on Wednesday that preliminary FY2027 tax commitments will be mailed to taxpayers on July 1 and that the amounts are preliminary, not final.

The official said the preliminary commitments will include two payment coupons, with one installment due in August and the second due in November. "They're basically what you can anticipate is whatever you paid in net tax last year, half that bill cut into two installments," the agency official said, describing the mailing and payment timeline.

The official said the assessor's proposed FY2027 budget is still under review by the selectmen and the finance committee. Because those reviews were not completed in time, the official said, the town meeting originally scheduled for June 15 has been rescheduled to June 29 at 7 p.m. at Ford Middle School; the meeting warrant is expected to be posted on the town website about 10 days before the session.

Taxpayers who qualify for real-estate personal exemptions were advised that exemption paperwork will be available in the assessor's office after July 1, 2026, and were encouraged to come in during the summer or fall so the credit appears on the January bill. The agency official also said a mailing will go to repeat Chapter 61 and 61A applicants; certain FY applications mentioned in the meeting are due back to the assessor's office by Dec. 1.

The board was told its next regular meeting is scheduled for July 8 at 4 p.m.
