The Butler County Board of Equalization on May 18, 2026, at the Butler County Courthouse in David City approved a slate of valuation adjustments and tax roll corrections presented by County Assessor Vickie Donoghue, voting 6-0 with one member absent.
County Assessor Vickie Donoghue presented a list of overvalued and undervalued real property and omitted personal property for the board’s consideration and asked the board to approve the adjustments. The board unanimously approved the list on a motion by Tony Krafka, seconded by Jan Sypal.
The board also reviewed and approved a series of tax roll corrections affecting multiple taxpayers. The changes were primarily attributed to late filing of personal property returns, omitted items (for example, a riding lawn mower and a four-wheeler for David and Diane Macholan), and missing depreciation schedules for equipment purchases (for example, Clint and Jill Ratkovec). Examples of corrections approved include a $4,650.18 addition for Clint and Jill Ratkovec (updated depreciation schedule not received), $373.58 for Rav 150 LLC for a late 2023 filing, and multiple smaller additions for omitted or late-reported personal property. Taken together, the approved corrections and adjustments listed in the board packet total $8,116.68.
The tax roll correction motions were moved by Brad Vandenberg, seconded by Scot Bauer, and carried on unanimous voice roll calls (Aye: Vandenberg, Sypal, Griess, Bauer, Krafka, Steager; Absent: Bob Coufal).
Separately, the board approved accelerating 2026 real estate taxes for a mobile home owned by Eller Family Farms LLC because the unit will be moved out of the county; the added tax listed for that acceleration is $379.66. That motion was moved by Jan Sypal, seconded by Scot Bauer, and approved 6-0.
Chairman Scott Steager declared the motions carried. The board voted to exit the Board of Equalization at 9:04 a.m.; the exit motion was moved by Scott Griess and seconded by Tony Krafka and passed unanimously (Absent: Bob Coufal). County Clerk Lori Aschoff attested the minutes.
