A county commissioner moved and the Monongalia County Commission approved revisions to sheriff’s office fees and related memoranda of understanding with municipalities and West Virginia University DPS. The change adds a $40 intake fee for persons processed by the sheriff’s office but not transferred to the regional jail and a $160 fee for individuals ultimately transported to the North Central Regional Jail; the commission clarified that both fees will not be charged for a single individual (only the applicable fee applies).
Commissioners and staff said the fees reflect rising costs of processing and are intended to update agreements that had not been adjusted in some time. The motion also directed staff to prepare and send revised agreements and invoicing language to partner agencies. The commission set the effective date for the revised fees as July 1.
The commission approved the change by voice vote; no roll‑call vote or individual counts were recorded in the transcript.
