Planning commission votes to resubmit zoning ordinance revisions after flag-size controversy

Chair said the package distributed to the city commission in February omitted explanatory paragraphs that had accompanied the proposals and that the omission created confusion and prompted questions at the city-commission meeting. Commissioners noted the public had focused on proposed flag regulations and that controversy had complicated consideration of unrelated sections. A motion to send the amendments back to the city commission with the explanatory notes restored passed on a voice/roll-call vote.
Commissioners indicated they would forward the material to the city commission before the next meeting to allow city commissioners to review the explanations; staff and the mayor (present in the audience) said restoring the explanatory material would help avoid repetition of the earlier issues.
