Board members reviewed a revision to the town’s vehicle/record storage and towing-rotation policy and spoke about operational steps to track tows and storage locations.
The chief (Speaker 5) said the policy is largely unchanged in substance from the prior version but expands detail about responsibilities for officers and records services, where vehicles may be stored and how they must be documented. “It just describes more in there as far as, responsibilities as far as for me and for the record services and what their responsibilities are at scenes… and things like that and storage of the vehicles, where they can be stored, how they can be stored,” the chief said.
The chief explained a weekly towing rotation among qualified companies that put applications in and are accepted to the list; the rotation would assign a company for an entire week so contractors can plan staffing. He said officers currently log uses and that the town created a dispatch form that hasn’t worked reliably, so duty-log entries are used for tracking. Board members discussed adding spreadsheets or permit checks so the town can track which company used a slot and to prevent repeated same-person use.
Why it matters: Clarified procedures and a formal weekly rotation aim to improve accountability, tracking and predictability for towing and storage operations. The board discussed limiting coupons and verifying municipal permits when items are dropped off in other contexts.
What’s next: Board members indicated a motion to adopt the rotation policy was made and seconded during the meeting; the transcript does not include a numerical roll-call tally. Staff and board signaled they will finalize tracking procedures (dispatch form, spreadsheets, permit verification).
