Staff said the school will build a new two-story facility on a reconfigured footprint and that, in prior layouts, about one-third of the soccer fields at Cox were on school property. "We don't have a facility to replace Cox at this point," the presenter said, noting the swap maintains the city's acreage overall but reduces the soccer footprint the city currently relies on.
Staff said softball fields south of the swap are unaffected and that the district had previously owned the majority of Cox even though the city maintained the complex. The presenter said the district appears to be on an 18-month schedule and expects to open the new school in the "fall of 28" according to district materials shown during the presentation.
What the board will get: staff is evaluating options to reconfigure available turf and to rely on Farmers Branch Park (the primary athletic complex) and CFV ISD facilities during transition so that residents' programs can continue with minimal interruption. Staff said further details depend on final district plans and property division.
