Orangeburg County Council unanimously accepted March 2 the Tax & Tourism Advisory Committee's funding recommendations totaling $135,525 and approved several administrative items including a sole-source procurement justification and multiple appointments.
County Administrator Harold M. Young told the council the advisory committee recommended allocating funds to a range of local events and initiatives: Branchville Railroad Daze ($10,925) ; the Safe Organization's Women's and Girls Empowerment Summit ($7,000) ; Eutaw Village Festival ($10,000) ; Grand American to retain the event in Orangeburg ($32,000) ; Branchville Youth Sports upgrades ($1,600) ; security at Indian Bluff Recreational Park ($30,000) ; a South Carolina State University event sponsorship ($15,000) ; Orangeburg Part-Time Players advertising ($5,000) ; Orangeburg County Fourth of July promotion ($12,000) ; and the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center promotion and a marketing plan ($12,000). Administrator Young presented a total of $135,525 in requests. The council accepted the recommendations by motion of Joseph Garvin, seconded by Vice-Chair Johnny Ravenell, on a unanimous vote (7-0-0).
The council also accepted a sole-source justification to contract with Public Consulting Group (PCG) for the Ambulance Supplemental Payment Program; the motion was moved by Councilwoman Janie Cooper-Smith, seconded by Deloris Frazier, and carried 7-0-0.
On appointments, the council reappointed Deloris D. Glover (District 2), Mary L. Smalls (District 5), and Celillus Spell (District 6) to the Orangeburg County Library Board of Trustees. The council appointed Tre'Vis Callum as a Code Enforcement Officer for Animal Control. All appointment motions passed unanimously (7-0-0).
The meeting adjourned at 6:32 p.m. following the executive-session vote earlier in the agenda. The minutes do not record further implementation steps or contract details; the procurement justification and appointment paperwork would be the next items for administrative follow-up.
