The Washington County Board of Education on June 4 approved year‑end general fund budget amendments that incorporate more than $1 million in grants, staff said.
Mister Hale (staff member, speaker S3) told the board the adjustments are an "end of the year cleanup" and that "a big part of it is adding in the grants that were not already in." He said the grants flow through the general fund rather than the federal fund and that the package includes funding for summer school and other programs: "Now there's over 1000000 dollars in the grants ... that's the fund our summer school."
Hale said he sometimes increases salary lines slightly in these cleanup amendments to avoid audit findings if lines would go over: "If I think we're close ... I'll be a little safe sometimes." Board members asked about motion language and whether separate motions were needed for the general fund grant portion; staff advised the board can approve the end‑of‑year general fund budget amendment and the dietary (school nutrition) fund amendment as presented and that moves across categories will go to the budget committee next week.
A board member moved to approve the 2025‑26 year‑end budget amendments for the general purpose and school nutrition budgets and the related grant amendments; the board approved the motion by consensus.
